Career Development Group - East Midlands Division

Are you aware?  An afternoon covering the latest developments in the
library and information world...

Date: 29 September 2003

Time: 2pm - 5pm

Venue: East Midlands Museums, Libraries, & Archives Council (EMMLAC),
56 King Street, Leicester, LE1 6RJ

Aims and Objectives:

The afternoon is aimed at those who want to develop their awareness of
current issues and developments in the library and information world.
Whatever your involvement you are sure to find it of great interest.
We have five speakers, each an authority in their sector and it promises
to be an exciting afternoon, giving participants the opportunity to ask
questions and find out about areas of library and information work which
are new to them.

The Afternoon:

• 1:30  Registration (coffee and tea will be provided)

• 2:00  Introduction,  followed by:

• The Work of EMMLAC - Dr Tim Hobbs, Chief Executive of EMMLAC.

• The Role of the Regional Librarian - Lynn Hodgkins, Regional Librarian,
East Midlands Regional Library System.

• Videoconferencing and Public Libraries - Robert Gent, Assistant
Director, Derbyshire Libraries & Heritage.

• 3:30   Break for tea and coffee, followed by:

• Lifelong Learning - Glenys Willars, Learning and Development Manager,
Leicestershire Libraries.

• The Challenges that Face NHS Libraries - Wayne Sime, Knowledge and
Library Services Manager, Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust)

• 4:50    Plenary and close

Social Evening:
We would like to invite all attending the afternoon to join us for an
evening meal to round off the day in style at a local restaurant. (We are
sorry but this is not included in the price of the afternoon!)  The Antibo
restaurant is just 5 minutes walk from the station and serves delicious
Italian food. Please indicate if you would like to come to the restaurant
by ticking the  relevant box on the booking form.

Cost: £6.00 incl VAT - Waged
Free for students, unemployed & retired

Venue Accessibility: Venue with 2-5 steps to event/meeting area and split
level access.
