We're looking for references or unpublished material dealing with depletion
haloes around garnet grains.
We are currently working on rocks that contain garnet corona textures from
various localities in the North Cascades of Washington. Some coronas from
this area have been attributed to replacement of garnet by plagioclase
during decompression. Others have been interpreted as ferromagnesian
depletion haloes around growing garnet grains. Our mineral chemical,
textural, and modeling studies are compatible with a depletion halo origin
for some of the garnet coronas. Thus far, we have only found brief mention
of these textures in literature from the North Cascades. For example,
textures from the Sloan Peak area are interpreted as depletion haloes.
We request help finding literature on the general subject of depletion halos
around porphyroblasts?
Thanks for your help,
