Grants of £5000 and over, totalling £750,000 are available now through the Copus Grant Schemes 2003/2004 for projects to engage people with the contemporary issues and ideas linked with science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
Three types of grant are available under one of three schemes:
+ Major grants, for grants of £50,000 and over
+ Large grants, for grants of £10,000 – £49,999
+ Small grants, for grants of £5,000 – £9,999
Grants will be awarded to science communication projects outside the formal education system that have a national reach or are pilot projects that are capable of being scaled up to reach audiences across the UK. Projects must meet one or more of the following funding priorities:
· Science in Society: projects that encourage public engagement with and dialogue about science, or consultation on science issues.
· Widening participation: projects that seek to widen participation in science in society activity to include audiences traditionally under-represented in such activity.
· Collaboration and Networking: projects that involve partnerships or networks between groups, organisations and individuals interested in science communication activity.
· Good Practice in Science Communication: projects to develop and disseminate good practice in science communication including evaluation methodology.
· Science in the media: projects that support informed media coverage of science issues.
The closing date for all applications is 6pm on Monday 10 November 2003.
Projects must be based in the UK. Applicants must be resident in the UK.
