As a fellow radical group, I thought some might be interested in this
conference, plus the presentations are very information system oriented.

DEMOCRATISING ACCESS TO STATISTICS


The meeting will include presentations from projects which are helping
empower people through making statistics accessible and relevant.

10:10  Plenary Session: Ludi Simpson opens discussion on 2001 Census

10:50  Background and Overview: Bradford Community Statistics Project

11:30  Making Statistics Relevant: the Statistics in Schools Project

12:10  LUNCH (delicious vegetarian and meat Bengali curries etc.)

13:10 Three parallel workshops:
        A. Bradford Community Stats on outreach work
        B. Doreen Conner: Working in Schools
        C. Roy Carr-Hill: The First of the 21st X Oil Wars (attitude survey)

14.30 ONS on Neighbourhood Statistics

15:10  Historical GIS (electronic mapping)

15:50  TEA

16:00 Radical Statistics Group 27th Annual General Meeting

18.00 Close of Conference (or earlier, depending on progress in the AGM)

The Bradford Resource Centre is at 17-21 Chapel Street, Little German,
Bradford BD1 5DT. For further details, see http://www.brc-net.org.uk.
Location maps will be sent with the registration confirmation, receipt and
accommodation listing when you return the form with your cheque.

There will be an informal gathering in a local pub on Friday evening, a meal
in a Spanish Restaurant on Saturday evening and a walk on Sunday (If there
are enough takers!).

  a.. We are working on getting offers of free accommodation by local
sympathisers. Please indicate if you would prefer this - space will be
allocated on a "first come, first served" basis as offers become available.
  b.. The nearest Youth Hostel is out in Haworth, some 7 miles from the City
Centre.
  c.. Meanwhile, you can look up commercial accommodation on
http://www.visitbradford.com, the Bradford District Council tourism site.
