The 4th International Workshop on Management Information on the Web (MIW'03)
- Web-Based Teaching and Learning
*** *** *** *** *** *** ***
in conjunction with the 14th International Conference on
Database and Expert Systems Applications
DEXA'2003
Prague, Czech Republic
1 - 5 September 2003
Following last year's successful MIW workshop (http://www.miw-workshops.com)
on Web-based teaching and learning, we will continue to explore various
issues of e-learning from different perspectives. With the rapid advance of
Internet technology, the Web offers a new and sophisticated information
delivery platform, which in turn provides teaching and learning with the
kind of environment and facilities that are not always available in
traditional classroom-based teaching. The ultimate goal of e-learning is to
take education to people rather than the other way round. It ensures that
education is more accessible by a larger population anywhere in the world.
In addition, e-learning represents a new way of teaching in which the
learning experience can be personalized based on each individual's
knowledge, needs and background.
In the past 2-3 years, there has been a soaring demand for Web-based
learning environment, content and services. This workshop aims at serving
the advanced online and distance learning markets by providing strategies,
technologies, and end-to-end solutions to the corporate, academia and
government sectors. We hope that the workshop will provide an opportunity
for a comprehensive discussion on all related issues of traditional distance
learning and the new Web-based online learning.
A major objective of this workshop will, therefore, be to discuss and answer
questions such as what is e-Learning; why is e-Learning an advantage; what
can e-Learning offer; what are the components of e-Learning; what are the
challenges in technology for e-learning; how to utilise existing
technologies; and many more.
The relevant topics may include the following (but not limited to):
e-Learning solutions and strategies
Successful projects and experience
New software development for e-learning
e-Learning and e-business
Multimedia education for e-learning
Web personalization for e-learning
Data mining and knowledge discovery on the Web
