OOPS-172: Programming in Bed - Dispersed Agile Development
Alan Cameron Wills
6pm for 6.30pm, Wednesday 5th November 2003
Sandwiches, nibbles and refreshments will be provided
Synopsis
Since mid-2002, Fastnloose Ltd has successfully been developing software
with a dispersed programming team - that is, everyone working from their own
homes.
We operate an agile development discipline (well-tested by our clients, who
changed their requirements regularly). This talk will present our
experiences and some practical advice.
Dispersed development is distinct from multi-site working (where the members
of each team are co-located); and from the situation with a mainly
co-located team with some remote workers. We've found that dispersed
development is a considerable improvement on either of those scenarios.
Fastnloose is not the only company to try dispersed development, and the
talk will also draw on wisdom gathered at a number of international
workshops over the past couple of years.
See http://www.fastnloose.com/dad for more information.
Speaker
Before joining Microsoft to develop software tools, Alan Cameron Wills ran
(with John Daniels) a dispersed development company, Fastnloose Ltd. In the
preceding decade he was a programming methods consultant with Trireme
International Ltd; and has been writing software since 1972.
