I didn't want to be the one to start casting stones, but I believe the target
compilers were Intel's linux compilers. I wouldn't be surprised if someone
found a connection between the cessation of the maintainers' activities and
subsequent "bite the hands which fed you" actions. If so, that could make
it practically impossible to carry out the committed integration into the
mainline gdb.
So, the mandatory disclaimer, I speak only personally and not for my
