Hi Jeff,
Wondering whether your poem posts sometimes respond to list goings on,
or whether it's just synchronicity. (Confessing I don't look at them
all -- your prolificity is enviable -- but when I do I invariably enjoy
them).
Here I feel like a person in a new environment, a tangled, 'ferny'
undergrowth, first of all tramping clumsily and relieved only by
familiar glimpses, and then getting my eye in a bit for the different
way things look. The fairly equal juxtaposition of words in and out of
brackets suggests that the parenthetical shall not be subordinate,
simply that it is a space close by where the other calls. I don't know
what causal relation there is between them: with 'trivial (E'zulE)
cannon oh (pIp)' there seems a kind of associative parallelism, for
instance. Pronunciation is a type of linguistic possession; I don't
know whether the piece endorses that or mocks it. The 'difficulty' of
the reading, slowed-down, enforces a different literacy on an easy
reader, and challenges the power of 'comprehension'.
That's all facile a beginning. Will anyone go further? I'm hampered now
by how the computer further deforms the diacritical marks on 'Reply' --
see below (this is quite nice ...)
