sorry this doesn't answer the question , but what about head control like trackIR. It seems quite reliable in good lighting.

Subject: Toshiba accupoint mouse
Dear All,
Can anyone help ?
I have a severely disabled EC user with MS who is desperate to get using his
computer again.
Eyesight is normal, he has a minute amount of fine control over middle
finger which he uses for switching of his enviromental control system . He
can not move upper arm or make continuos switching actions (so switch access
via EZ-keys etc is not an option)
I have tried him with various trackball, touchpad and joystick mouses
without much success.
The mouse he found easiest was the accupoint keybaord mouse on my Toshiba
laptop. Unfortunately he finds it difficult to use it when his arm is
outstretched (away from his chest). Secondly he has a PC not a laptop.
Has anyone come across a stand alone accupoint type mouse with a PS/2 or
serial connection.
