Apologies for multiple postings:
Some places left on these April workshops:
Using learning journals, to support learning in art & design
1st April, led by Eve Graves
Background
The prior learning experiences of our students are becoming
increasingly diverse. For many individuals the transition to higher
education and the demands of degree programmes is daunting. How are
we to encourage all our students to take an active part in their
learning in ways that will enrich the experience of whole groups?
Participants
This session is aimed at teachers who are looking for ways to
encourage their students to become more actively involved in their
subjects and to take more responsibility for their learning.
Participants may be completely new to the use of learning journals or
may wish to consider ways of enriching their use.

Virtual learning environments (vle's) for effective learning in art and design
1st April, led by Julia Gaimster

This workshop looks at the pedagogical and practical issues involved in the
use of vles in art and design. It will cover ways of integrating images
into your site effectively and using some of the tools to support
collaborative and independent learning.
Participants
The workshop will be of interest to those who are considering using a
virtual learning environment or those who have been using one but wish to do
so more effectively.

Widening students' sensitivities: supporting learning strategies by
using the environment
3rd April, led by Mike Bradshaw
Outline
This workshop introduces some alternative ways to approach visual
research, which will enable you to formulate or re-evaluate your
strategies for curriculum delivery. Examples to be discussed have
been tested to work alongside visual studies programmes and are seen
as an extension rather than a replacement to established drawing
conventions.
You will be introduced to and explore the various practices used in
resource based learning (RBL) which because the term is widely
defined by teachers and lecturers, this workshop will concentrate on
the use of "environment" as a focus for discussion.
The workshop is designed to act as a catalyst, promoting discussion
on curriculum development with reference to using "off site"
activities to stimulate learning. The workshop looks at the use of
"image" as a notation for recording experiences and perceptions,
emphasising the importance of this in relation to research.
