DOCUMENTATION AND RECORDS MANAGER
NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM, YORK
GRADE MG3 (£21,248 - £28,348)
(permanent post)
The National Railway Museum is looking for an experienced museum
documentation/records management professional to join its newly-created
Knowledge and Collections Team.
The National Railway Museum is the world's pre-eminent Museum devoted to the
history and technology of railways. The Museum together with the Science
Museum, London and the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television,
Bradford, forms the National Museum of Science and Industry.
As part of an extensive restructuring of our collections management
departments, we are looking for an individual to manage our collections
documentation and records management systems, in line with national
standards and legislation. In particular the post-holder will manage the
processes for internal and external loans of museum objects, and for the
rationalisation of collections. You will ensure that these systems operate
to ensure the maximum benefit to internal and external users and maximise
access to collections information.
You will be a graduate in a relevant subject and also hold a post-graduate
qualification in either Museum Studies or Records Management. Ideally you
will have 3 years professional experience of museum documentation systems
and/or records management in a museum environment. You will have an
up-to-date knowledge of the UK legislative, institutional and standards
framework for the documentation, care and loan of museum collections, and
for records management in public sector bodies.
You will analyse the business needs for collections documentation and
records management and policies and procedures to reconcile these with
legislative and professional standards. You will be responsible for
communicating and explaining policy and technical issues to a variety of
audiences both in writing and face-to-face presentations.
A high degree of IT literacy is essential, preferably including experience
of managing and specifying user requirements for database systems.
Knowledge of the MultiMIMSY Collections Management system would be an
advantage.
Experience in the management of human and/or financial resources plus
experience in the recruitment and management of staff and volunteers is
required, as is experience of planning and implementing projects under
pressure and to tight deadlines. Good communication and organisational
skills will be essential, as will the ability to build and sustain
relationships with a wide variety of contacts.
Please apply by way of a detailed cv (of 2/3 pages) plus a covering letter
to: The Personnel Department at the National Railway Museum, Leeman Road,
York YO26 4XJ (tel: 01904 621 261) from whom copies of the job description
can be obtained.
