A major new 'archive' has just gone online, "The Correspondence of William
Henry Fox Talbot". Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board and
Glasgow University, Professor Larry Schaaf and his colleagues have
transcribed and databased 10,000 letter relating to William Henry Fox Talbot
(1800-1877) one of the inventors of photography. These included
translations for most of the more than 500 foreign language letters.
Talbot's interest ranged from Assyriology, through mathematics to botany.
The letters cover these subject areas together with a very great range of
material on the history of photography.
