Digital Preservation in the Regions
The National Archives is holding a seminar at Kew on 17 November 2003 to
discuss the requirements for developing a strategy for the preservation of
digital archives in the regions. This is in accordance with the Government
Policy on Archives: Action Plan (s 5.iv) which states that 'it would be
appropriate to consider a regional solution to the storage of electronic
resources'.
During the seminar, we will hear about the work on Digital Preservation
which has been carried out at the National Archives, the British Library and
in the Higher Education sector. We will also learn about the problem from a
local perspective.
We will discuss possible ways forward which might include collaboration with
other sectors, cross domain working and the establishment of local or
regional digital preservation centres. We will look at the possibility of
pilot projects and will consider funding. We will aim to agree on the next
steps by the end of the meeting.
If you interested in attending, could you please email my colleague Paulette
Thompson at the address below. The seminar is free, but places are limited.
