Please bring the advertisement below to the attention
of interested colleagues. The Royal National Theatre
Archive is hereby inviting applications for the post
of Archive Assistant. A copy of the advertisement is
to be found below and on various graduate bulletin
boards.

The National Theatre Archive was established in
November 1993 with the assistance of a grant from the
Foundation for Sport and the Arts and is currently
located in Kennington, London. Its objectives are: to
maintain a permanent documentary record of the
functions and artistic activities of the Royal
National Theatre since its inception in 1963; and to
make this material and the information it contains
available to enquirers. The archive holds the National
Theatre’s permanent collection of Board and
administrative papers; programmes, posters, leaflets,
press cutting books, prompt scripts and production
files; material relating to the work of the Studio and
the Education Department and to other activities such
as Platform Performances and Exhibitions.

The Archive is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic
graduate as Archive Assistant to participate in all
aspects of the Archive's work. The principal duties of
the post will be to work as part of a small team in
supporting public services, including assisting
researchers and running the archive's reprographic
service. There will be a particular emphasis on
cataloguing our collection using the CALM software
system. The candidate should have good communication
and keyboard skills. This work would provide an ideal
opportunity for a graduate looking to gain experience
prior to applying to one of the archival Masters
degrees. The job is based in Kennington but will
involve some work at the South Bank site of the
National Theatre. The salary will be in the range
£13,000 to £14,000 per annum depending on skills and
experience. The post is tenable for 12 months from the
time of appointment. Application forms and a full job
description are available from the Personnel
Department, Royal National Theatre, South Bank, London
SE1 9PX, tel. 74523274
e-mail: [log in to unmask] The
deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm Monday 8
September 2003. Information about the Archive can be
obtained from our website
http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/?lid=3092
