Apologies for cross-posting:
EXTERNAL EXAMINER WORKSHOPS.
This workshop is run by C-SAP (the LTSN Centre for Learning and Teaching Sociology, Anthropology and Politics) and is free to attend. We do expect delegates to pay for their travel.
C-SAP are running regional training workshops dealing with the issue of External Examining. In recent years the removal of the binary divide, the rise of quality assurance systems and an ongoing concern about standards have put additional pressure on the External Examining system. There is now a vigorous debate between those who foresee a more modest role for externals and those who wish to see their role expanded and strengthened.
The C-SAP examining workshops will be run by John Wakeford of the Missenden Centre <http://www.missendencentre.co.uk/> and until recently the University of Lancaster. A sociologist by training, John has extensive experience of running courses for academics and will allow participants to explore their concerns and debate the issues through a combination of case study work and organised thematic discussion. The events are open to all academics from the C-SAP disciplines regardless of whether they have any externalling experience or not.
