Do any other HEIs have difficulty responding in a meaningful way to
enquiries from external agencies about 'Under-represented' student groups?
This could be in relation to either standard returns, or bids for top-sliced
funding. We think this is a poorly defined pseudo-category and it is all but
impossible to respond to related questions where counts of student numbers
are expected.
It seems that this category of students might be based on any one or more of
three criteria:
* Home address (postcode)
* Socio-economic class (the Royal Family are not very well represented
just now at St Martin's)
* Educated in state schools.
There is rarely, if ever, any advice on this in calls for returns or
invitations to bid, so it is difficult to second-guess which of the above
criteria are to be used. For example, if postcode area is an important
criterion, it would help if we could be supplied with the mappings we are
expected to use.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Regards
David
