I have known this one for ages: If you have annual travel insurance and go
to a conference [even as a delegate], you are considered to be on business
and therefore not on holiday. Therefore you need a business travel insurance
rather than a hoilday insurance. The only 2 sources I have found for this
are the BMA Services annual insurance [for BMA members only] which expects
doctors to go on conferences so does provide cover; and the British Airways
executive club travel insurance - which is aimed at business people so again
provides cover.

Subject: Conferences-travel insurance
Dear Colleagues, I hope this is appropriate for the mailbase. I have
recently been renewing my 'holiday' travel insurance and in the process was
asked if I would be working while abroad. I mentioned that I would be
giving a lecture, and was asked if my expenses would be paid. I said yes
and was told that that would possibly invalidate my insurance. Has anybody
had this experience or know the answer? thankyou David Burnett.
