I asked the list whether anybody was helping members of the public to
publish their own websites. Here's the responses:
Bury was doing this, and hope to do so again. They used Geocities and found
the course was quite popular.
Manchester Community Information Network are using a content editor they
designed themselves, since they didn't find free software suitable.
Staffordshire use a service run by the local paper, which seems to use
software they created themselves.
South Gloucestershire are putting MS Front Page onto their People's Network
machines in one library, funded by the local college who will run training
sessions.
Newport are using MS Publisher. Resulting pages are then hosted by free
hosting sites. They've been doing this for a year and a half.
East Ayrshire use a local community project called Ayrshire Electronic
Community, European funded.
In Medway we're looking into using Geocities (www.geocities.com), Blogger
(www.blogger.com), or Freeserve (http://www.freeserve.com/sitebuilder/).
