NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT
LIRG E.G.M. votes in favour of CILIP union
At the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Library and Information
Research Group held in London on Tuesday 3rd December 2002 a motion to
achieve assimilation of the Group into the Chartered Institute of Library
and Information Professionals was passed nem con with a substantial number
of proxy votes. The work to assimilate LIRG into CILIP as a Special
Interest Group can now proceed apace.
Welcoming the result, Eric Davies LIRG Vice-Chair remarked that a number of
people [from LIRG and CILIP] had a put a great deal of effort into getting
to this stage, and their contribution should be acknowledged. However, the
hard work was far from over; the SIG, when it came into existence, would
face a formidable task of addressing a range of challenges related to the
performance and application of research in order to sustain a vibrant
research culture within the profession.
The full text of the motion reads:-

Group agrees to the assimilation of the Group into the Chartered Institute
of Library and Information Professionals from April 2003 and instruct the
Officers and Committee to undertake such steps as are necessary to achieve
this objective.
The Meeting notes that the requirements in the CILIP regulations to support
such an objective have been met.
