Evian (Lake Geneva / Lac Leman / Genfer See), France
July / Juillet / Juli 13-19, 2003.
The goal of the International French-German Philosophy Colloquium is
to bring Continental philosophy, and in particular contemporary French
philosophy, into dialogue with other philosophical traditions. The
colloquium aims at the greatest possible diversity with respect to the
native languages and intellectual backgrounds of participants.
This year's topic, "What is a human being?", seems particularly suited
to
achieve this goal. Indeed, it is not only according to Kant that the
question of the human being is regarded as the most essential question
that lies behind all other philosophical questions. It can be read as
the
driving force behind many of the most important philosophical movements
of
the 20th century and as a hidden connection between them. The question
even drives those currents in contemporary philosophy that have
radically
called into question the concept of the human being and have pleaded for
its abolition. The colloquium invites participants to pose the question
of
the human being once again and to debate its relevance for today's
philosophy.
Call for Papers:
We invite half-page proposals for papers and workshops for immediate
submission. The final deadline is March 31, 2003. Please send your
