For G & T I believe the advice comes from John Heyworth on behalf of BAEM
and Lynda Holt (A former sister in A and E in Warwick and chair of the RCN A
& E Nursing Association) together with Karen Castille (Who used to be one of
the sisters in Manchester Royal Infirmary and more recently I believe,
Bolton) as Director of Emergency Services for the Modernisation Agency. I
quote from Mr Heyworth and Miss Holt: 'BAEM and RCN are committed to
improving the care given to patients in emergency departments. We believe
that adoption of 'see and treat' principles, will lead to improved patient
care and satisfaction, not only by decreasing waits but by continuing the
evolution of a more senior based emergency service'. As with the head
injuries working party, I am not certain whether this was intended to
represent the views of the speciality or of one individual.
