This conference aims to investigate notions of time and space in the
writings of German women authors of the 18th and 19th century. The
dynamic interrelationship between gender, time, and space will be
explored in a variety of genres and from a variety of temporal and
spatial perspectives.
Suggested foci for the notion of
TIME
* historical novels and dramas
* time and narrativity
* memory
* periodization
* contemporary social and/or political issues
Suggested foci for the notion of
SPACE
* personal/private space
* genre as aesthetic space
* social space: class
* physical/geographic space
* travel
* nature
* architecture
*Poster session: An interactive session where contributors display
posters on their latest research and discuss their work individually
with conference participants.
Keynote Speaker: TBA
We plan to allow time for visits to the Library of Congress and local
theaters.
The Department of German at GU will make every effort to make this
conference affordable.
Submission of abstracts for papers in English or German: 1-2 page
abstracts due by February 15, 2003. Finished papers due to session
