> The independent publication new books in german was launched in 1997 as a twice yearly journal aimed chiefly at busy British and American editors sympathetic to the idea of publishing more translations, but also in need of independent help in finding the right titles from among the thousands published each year in the German language. Publication dates dovetail with the Leipzig Bookfair in March, and the Frankfurt International Bookfair in October.

> Purpose of job:

> o To carry out project management and administration in connection with the publication of two issues of new books in german a year, to coincide with the London and Frankfurt Book Fairs (March and October).
> o To work with the Editor, the Publisher and the funders as appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the project.

> Remuneration:

> o An annual fee of £4,000 (covering two issues of the journal) is offered.
> o Agreed expenses for rail and air travel, occasional taxis, hotel accommodation in Frankfurt will be reimbursed.
> o Employment is on a freelance basis, but much of the work can be carried out from an office based at the Goethe-Institut Inter Nationes at South Kensington.

> Main duties:

> o Oversee all administrative aspects of the project to ensure that finances are in good order and publication deadlines are met, for example:
> o Liaise with all funders over funding applications; prepare and submit applications, chase up if necessary, supply final accounts to funders as requested; monitor budget and cash flow, keep appropriate financial records; produce financial reports for Steering Committee;
> o Contact publishers to invite submissions, gain permission to review books selected, inform publishers if their book is not selected. Liaise with Editor over other information required (book covers, authors> '> photos etc) and chase up where necessary. Send out invoices to publishers and keep records of all books submitted
> o Maintain mailing lists for distributing the journal including checking Bookseller for changes in personnel in British publishing. Write and duplicate letters to go out with each issue as appropriate in consultation with the Editor. Organise distribution/mailing as appropriate
> o Liaise with Frankfurt Book Fair and London Book Fair over arrangements for stand at the fair, organisation of meeting of funders and distribution of journal. Book accommodation and transport as appropriate. Attend Fairs with Editor if required by the Steering Committee

> Person specification:

> o Self-starter with meticulous attention to detail.
> o Fluent English and German and ability to write well in both languages.
> o Good office skills including knowledge of Word, Excel and Access.
> o Good organising and communication skills.
> o Ability to monitor budgets and keep basic financial records.
