Dear Paul and DRS list members,
1. There is a vast amount of info on the ISO site http://www.iso.org. See
also "General references" under 4 below).
2. There is a lot of development happening in the construction industry at
present, probably including people at Loughborough, Paul! (One of the things I
find delightful about using the web is how you can find out about things close
to home).
3. You could also look at http://www.iai-na.org/membership/membership_brief.php
This is the International Alliance for Interoperability (North America).
I quote:
"What Is The Alliance?
The Alliance is a global standards-setting organization representing widely
diverse constituencies - from architects and engineers, to research scientists,
to commercial building owners and contractors, to govern-ment officials and
academia, to facility managers and building product manufacturers. Alliance
members are committed to promoting effective means of exchanging information
among all software platforms and applications serving the AEC+FM community.
IAI's goal of "interoperability," the free exchange of information, is
accomplished primarily through the Alliance's technical bodies, Domain
Committees, which define industry foundation classes (IFCs)™ and aecXML
schema™. In cooperation with IAI organizations throughout Europe and the
Pacific Rim, IAI published IFC release R1.5.1 in 1998 and R2.0 in 1999.
IAI's "Developer Release R2.x" with stabilized platform was published in April
2000. The first aecXML schema are due to be adopted by the end of 2000."
4. I received the following email from Owen Lewis a couple of days ago.
(Thank you, Owen).
