Dear All,
What are some possible pathology or factors that might have caused this
early/'abnormal' NOF fracture?
The lad is due for right lower limb NWB mobilisation on crutches soon. But
I'm a bit wary. Don't want to cause a bilateral NOF fracture scenario.
Case:
A 18 year old male was admitted to hospital for right hip pain. Pt was able
to walk without assistance although with a slight limp. The pain appeared
1/52 ago after a 3 km run with his platoon. The pt was 2 months into his
basic military training. No extraneous activity or unusual exercises were
conducted.
X-ray: right neck of femur fracture. Garden's type II
Operation: right dynamic hip screw fixation.
Family history: no hx of systemic, rheumatological or immunological disease.
Social history: mildly active. No participation in aggressive sports.
Medical history: No major trauma or other diseases.
The doctors queried an AVN (avascular necrosis) of the femoral head.
Thanks.
Chee-Wee
