medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Piroska,
in 1349 (the plague year), the image of the Virgin at Tournai was
reported to have wept: see Chronique et Annales de Gilles le Muisit
abbé de Saint-Martin de Tournai (1272–1352), ed. by Henri
Lemaître, Paris 1906 (Société de l’histoire de France [102]),
pp. 192-93. The situation was terse, as the city was frequented by
flagellant groups (apparently during a season marked by the two
Marian feast-days, 15 August and 8 September).
I hope this helps Best wishes,
Christoph
