>I'm sure if we all pull together and fight something can be done. Does
anyone have the details of the local campaign representative?<
There's a lot of people out there campaigning hard already - and not just
about Heathrow - the alternative plans for Stansted and Cliffe (historic
monuments affected at both sites) are pretty devastating as well. Most of
the campaigning (quite rightly) is on behalf of the people who actually live
in the areas directly or indirectly affected, but environmental issues are
also high on the agenda. It's divide and rule of course - three candidates
- which is the least worse option? What to sacrifice: the Harmondsworth
barn or the birds at Cliffe?
Try www.airportwatch.org.uk for the overall picture, with links to local
sites - and for the official line www.airconsult.gov.uk - there's an online
NOP that actually includes 'Impacts on heritage sites' as one of the
criteria you can comment on - and if you are careful with your answers you
can object outright to any airport developments happening at all!
