A one-day workshop from ALT
Date: 20 November 2002
Time: 0930 -1600
Venue: University College London
Cost: Stlg 80 (ALT members), stlg 130 (non-members)
Booking deadline: 6 November 2002
Overview:
This workshop will provide an overview of good practice, tips and
hints on getting research and development activities published.
Participants will receive a paper to review prior to attending the
workshop, along with refereeing guidelines. During the workshop
this process will be discussed and critiqued and will conclude by
synthesising the main lessons learnt. This session will involve the
opportunity for participants to discuss an area of their work and
how to prepare it for publication. This will include discussion about
the different types of journals and how participants can match their
findings to the appropriate journal.
The intention is that the workshop will provide a firm basis for
helping participants prepare to submit papers to ALT-J and the
newly established research strand of the ALT-C proceedings.
Topics to be covered:
* An overview of publishing
* Format and structure of research papers
* Referencing conventions
* Literature searching

* Translate their research and development activities into a
research paper targeted at a particular journal/audience
