I am certainly not suggesting that the blind Sophocles can be compaired with modern contemporaries. However, the story about Oedipus from my rather basic reading, is about the revenge for the 'exposure' of a physically impaired infant at a time when 'exposure' was considered 'normal'.
As the study of classics remains a fundamental part of a good education, it does have some bearing on a modern mindset.
