medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
ANGLO-SAXON SANCTITY AND ITS AFTERLIFE: ORIGINS, APPROPIATIONS, AGENDAS
(700-1700), I-II International Congress on Medieval Studies, Kalamazoo, May
8-11, 2003
These two special sessions will address the representation of Anglo-Saxon
saints in late-Anglo-Saxon, Norman, Middle English, and Early Modern
culture. We invite papers that track the literary, cultural, or political
concerns that register in the legends of Anglo-Saxon saints in one or more
these periods. In bringing together papers across traditional historical
boundaries, we hope the sessions will open consideration of how the
representational strategies of Anglo-Saxon legends affect their later use
and how later versions of the legends, in turn, use Anglo-Saxon sanctity to
address a variety of cultural concerns.
