Apologies for cross posting
OCLC PICA are pleased to announce a seminar on the new QuestionPoint service
from OCLC and the Library of Congress
Join us to learn about this new collaborative reference service that links a
global network of reference librarians who interact with library users and
share questions and answers.
With QuestionPoint, your library will gain a powerful, easy-to-use resource
to provide digital reference services. Your library users will gain a
resource that enables them to submit questions at any time through your
library's web site. QuestionPoint extends reference support directly to your
users through web-based forms and online chat capabilities, and it enables
you to answer your users questions or route them to libraries within your
group prior to escalating unanswered questions to the global network.
QuestionPoint has been developed by the Library of Congress and OCLC, with
input from participating members of the Global Reference Network (libraries
and institutions worldwide that are committed to digital reference). It
enables libraries to:
* Add simple links from any page in their library portal to support a
locally branded and customisable question-asking service including:
Web-based submission forms, email-based interaction, and live chat with
users
* Respond to, track and manage reference questions from users via the
Web
* Search a global knowledge base of previously asked and answered
reference questions.
* Refer unanswered questions to other libraries in the library's
cooperative as needed based on availability and expertise
* Refer still-unanswered questions to expert resources through a
global web-based network in which an automated "request manager"
routes questions from one library to another, based on metadata about the
question and predefined profiles of the collection, subject and staff
strengths of members of the network
The seminar will provide an introduction to the QuestionPoint service. A
speaker from a library currently implementing the service will provide a
library perspective.
