SOCIAL EVOLUTION AND HISTORY
EDITORIAL POLICY STATEMENT
The new international Journal, Social Evolution and History (SEH) is brought
to life by the actual necessity to unite the efforts of those who starve for
understanding of how human societies and the whole humankind are developing.
While there are dozens of journals on the biological evolution explicitly
mentioning Biological Evolution in their titles, there is hardly a single
journal in the whole world explicitly mentioning Social Evolution in its
title; this seems to be sufficient to comprehend that the need in new
journals on social evolution is most obvious.
Social evolution is a very ample and polysemantic notion that permits to
avoid extremes of both essentialism and postmodernism. Social Evolution and
History is precisely the right title that is able to stress the journal's
theoretical position: tight connection with the achievements of different
sciences and the desire to consider social transformations as not only a
stream of facts and chaotic changes but also as processes of different scale
taking place within longer or shorter time spans. The Journal's aim is to
contribute to the integration of such fields of knowledge as anthropology,
history, sociology, philosophy and theory of history. Such integration in
fact lacks up till now though its necessity has been felt acutely for a long
time and is generally realized by the academic community. In the current
context of continuously increasing information flow any professional
endeavors to introduce new forms and methods of integrating facts within
social theories, and to establish interdisciplinary links appear to be
especially valuable.
The Social Evolution and History Journal is devoted to the study of a great
variety of the social evolution aspects within time and space of human
history. We expect to publish theoretical, analytical, and synthetic
articles. SEH hopes to present to our readers the whole range of modern
approaches to social evolution and possibilities of historical
generalizations. SEH is an international journal which provides for a
synthesis of scholarly efforts stemming from scholars of different nations
representing a wide range of academic traditions.
SEH is devoted to the study of theoretical dimensions of human history, as
well as its crucial moments and components, as well as evolutionary pathways
of various cultures and civilizations. In the meantime the Journal is
focused on the Human Beings, their culture, which encompasses all the
spheres of everyday activities, and which reflects all the processes on both
microhistorical and macrohistorical levels.
Thus, SEH is not a speculative edition separated from historical case
studies and achievements of modern science. In the meantime, we attempt at
demonstrating opportunities of integrating historical and social development
of the humankind and particular societies within ample generalizing
theories.
The Journal is published in English, in printed and electronic versions.
