To all
That 'disabled perspon' implies that the disability IS that person is not
necessairly true. Anyone who thinks that just becaue someone calls
themselves disabled person is making an error, an error on the side of
LISTENER not the speaker. The listener mistakenly assumes that 'disability'
excludes all other characteristics or personas. My family includes many
doctors of medicine, but to think doctor covers all the atributes of my
father, Dr.G.B.Peckitt, or any doctor, teacher, nurse, pick your profession
is just dumb. He's a son, father, husband, good cook...squash player.
May be Doctor Peckitt could be called 'person with medical degree'? Would
that be more to some people taste? Pwd still gets the disability in there,
you cannot get read of inequality merely by fiddling with words, people have
to have shared meaning, but arguing over the arrangement of those words is
unecessary. To some people 'disabiliity' means 'impairment' (according to
the SM), sometimes it means not able. It is the meaning, not the physical
arrangement of ink or pixels that is important.
