medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Farmer in his exceedingly thorough Oxford Dictionary of Saints mentions
that "the legend of Wilgefortis is sometimes explained as an attempt to
account for the clothed and bearded figure of Christ on the Cross." Could
this actually be a sculture of THE crucifixion, later mistakenly connected
with our bearded lady?
