This is a little strong. Most of the changes were designed to remove
misleading language (for example "bishops and curates" [i.e. those in
pastoral charge] was replaced by "bishops, priests and deacons"). There was
also a conscious effort on the part of General Synod to ensure that a legal
version of the prayer book as actually used was produced.
I have never been to a service for which I needed to give notice to the
parish priest, and for which the prescribed notice and exhortations have
been given. All these are statutory requirements under the 1662 Act of
Uniformity, to which the Prayer Book is a Schedule. Nor have I been to such
a service which used an authorised translation of the Bible (for BCP
services, only the KJV, Revised Version, RSV, Jerusalem Bible and Good News
Bible are authorised). I find it is much easier to follow BCP services in
Common Worship, since there is much less jumping about. Common Worship Rite
2, of course, is authorised for use with any version of the Bible.
