Dear all list members,
This is a request for suggestions and pointers. I have been
commissioned by the Equality Commission in Northern Ireland to do
a brief literature review on the question of the double identity of
being a disabled woman. This is a prelude to a research study they
are going to conduct themselves on the experiences of disabled
women in Northern Ireland. I'm pretty familiar with much of the
literature but in case I'm missing anything that should not be missed,
I would be grateful for suggestions and poiinters to what you feel are
the key references on this issue.
The Equality Commission briefly, fulfills the functions of the
Disability Rights Commission, the Equal Opportunities Commission
an d the Commission for Racial Equality in GB as well as the unique
Northern Irish concern of religious discrimination. Its general role,
however is to equality proof all Government policy in respect to
seven categories including for example, age and sexual orientation,
as well as those listed above listed in Section 75 of the 1998
Northern Ireland Act which imposes a duty on public bodies to
promote equality. This remit has meant that it leans heavily on an
approach that emphasises the commonalities between the groups of
people covered by the legislation and it has a particular interest in
exploring how they interact.
Any help anyone can provide would be most welcome.
