re terminology for "confined to bed"
What about the old "non-ambulatory"? or does this sound like it relates only
"Repose" is a positive word. Can you work with that?
"Recumbent" is another but sounds sort-of passive
"bed-based lifestyle"? Clutching at straws now.

Subject: shift from appliance-dependency
| Your insights into the use of body position rather than
| is astute: prone and horizontal often can refer to women's sexual
| etc. Your research sounds fascinating...and scarey to comprehend the
| occurences of abuse of women physically dependent in beds....
| Good luck with the language. Maybe there is no short-cut for this. Maybe
| the language needs to be women who reside in bed, or something.
| saying that elicits sexual images. Good for you for researching this!
| >>Thanks very much for this - shifting attention from appliance dependency
| a good idea .. I will have to think of an appropriate word ... 'prone' or
| 'horizontal' often connotes notions of women's sexual passivity - only
| this because the research is about abuse of disabled women and many have
| sexually abused due to their constant horizontal position. Your thoughts
| really help with writing up my research - thanks - greatly appreciated.
