Just to keep up the current momentum ...
I visited St Anne's Well, Brislington, while on a visit to Bristol on
Sunday 23rd. The structure is in a basically sound state although two of
the coping stones have been pushed into the well itself and the whole
well enclosure is very neglected, overgrown and boggy. The carving of St
Anne placed there in 1996 now looks authentically ancient, being toppled
over, defaced and covered in moss. I spotted a 2p coin (and a small
fish) in the well. As several wells are being or have been recently
restored it's a shame to see this one in so poor a state having been so
lately looked after. However I hear the new local vicar is keen to
revive the annual pilgrimage to the well on St Anne's Day.
