Your insights into the use of body position rather than appliance-dependency
is astute: prone and horizontal often can refer to women's sexual passivity,
etc. Your research sounds fascinating...and scarey to comprehend the
occurences of abuse of women physically dependent in beds....
Good luck with the language. Maybe there is no short-cut for this. Maybe
the language needs to be women who reside in bed, or something. Wow...just
saying that elicits sexual images. Good for you for researching this!

>>Thanks very much for this - shifting attention from appliance dependency is
a good idea .. I will have to think of an appropriate word ... 'prone' or
'horizontal' often connotes notions of women's sexual passivity - only saying
this because the research is about abuse of disabled women and many have been
sexually abused due to their constant horizontal position. Your thoughts
really help with writing up my research - thanks - greatly appreciated.
Cheers
