Richard Florida's work linking innovation to culturally vibrant communites
has now reached the ear of policy makers across Canada. His work is fast
approaching that of Robert Putnam in the way it is being absorbed and spun
into wholesome commentary. I am interested in hearing opinions from the
members of the forum. Is the presence of Bohemians really a significant
aspect of innovation and growth in cities ? Furthermore, is the political
interest a response to the fact that funding culture is much less expensive
than dealing with the real problems of industrial restructuring and
globalization?
