This may be of interest to some DCMI registry folks:
UKOLN and ILRT are working to enhance the metadata schemas registry
which is provided to support the Metadata for Education Group (MEG). To
date, that has made use of the prototype registry created by the DESIRE
project:

The proposed registry has some similarities to the DCMI registry as it
suggests an approach based on indexing RDF schemas which may be
distributed as XML documents on the Web. It differs from the DCMI
registry in that there is an significant emphasis on "application
profiles".
The software development work is being undertaken by Dave Beckett and
Damian Steer at ILRT.

The work is at an early stage and there's not much information on that
page at the moment, but a first draft of a "Functional Requirements",
which was influenced by earlier work by the DESIRE and SCHEMAS projects,
