Dear WG Members,
I am please to report that work on the phase 1 registry is nearing
completion. The up-to-date version of the registry can be found at:
http://wip.dublincore.org:8080/dcregistry/index.html. There is also a link
from the prototypes page (http://wip.dublincore.org:8080/registry/Registry),
under the section 'related applications'.
Remaining work to be completed includes:
- Language translations for the user interface (UI) need to be verified.
The UI currently supports English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German,
Italian, Chinese, Korean and Portuguese. All of the single-byte language
translations are complete, but not verified (it will be interesting to see
how good these translations are since the translations were done using
Google's language tools). The double-byte languages (i.e., Chinese) could
not be translated this way, and are only partially complete, using
translated terms previously provided by ULIS.
NOTE: To view the translations correctly requires a browser that supports
internationalization (all versions of IE and Netscape have for the past
several releases). You will also need to have this option enabled and have
the language fonts loaded. See your browser's help for information on how
to do this.
- Term translations have been loaded for English, Japanese, Spanish, German,
Chinese and Korean (more coming soon).
- Test the text searching functionality with languages other than English.
I suspect that this logic may not currently work as expected with languages
other than English. This is difficult to test with an English-only
keyboard.
- Write and translate the help text.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to evaluate the UI translations and provide corrections
for any errors found. We are also looking for help testing the text search
function in their native language. Please let me know if you can help with
either of these tasks.
Best Regards,
Harry Wagner
