I have just come across a fascinating book on-line by
A.B. (Banjo) Patterson, of which some mention is made
by Andrew Lycett on p461 of his biography.
The website is:
http://purl.library.usyd.edu.au/setis/id/P00055
"Happy Dispatches" was published in Sidney in 1934 and
Chapter XI is on the subject of Rudyard Kipling.
Patterson describes his visit to RK in Rottingdean,
going out for a drive in the Lanchester, considers
RK's working methods, and is highly complementary. He
ascribes RK's desire for accuracy to his early
training as a sub-editor wherein inaccuracy is the
cardinal sin.
WIth best regards
