An interesting board. One comment would be that it is based on perl, which
tends to be processor intensive on the server. It also makes reading posts
difficult, but it is clear and easily readable.
Moving significatnly off-topic I would have to say that the 'best' bulliten
board is Vbulliten. It can be changed to exactly what you want, colors are
easily set up and there is a very large support community based around the
internet.
I agree that the downside of BB's (bulliten boards) is that yu have to be
online to use them. But add in the flexibility of posting pictures, using
HTML and BB Codes as well as many other user-definable options and I truly
believe they work better than a mailing list. Especially as they can then be
accessed from any machine, not just the one setup for your email!
Remembering of course that an email list involves you downloading all the
emails in the first place, takin online time before you even begin.

Following on from the discussion on alternatives to a mailing list...for an
example of an excellent bulletin board approach to, have a look at
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/
Very well organised and clear and simple to navigate, but you are online all
the time you are reading posts.
