Subject: Writing support materials for new video
Dear Friends,
Before Christmas I managed to get hold of an excellent new resource (see
info below) but as a video by itself it is only of so much use in the
classroom. I am wondering whether there are any educators out there who
would be interested in working on some notes and accompanying activites. As
a charity we have not got huge amounts of money to offer but we could give
you a small financial contribution or 'pay' you with other teaching
resources - and of course you would all get a free copy of the video and
finished version of the support material we produce. So if anyone is
interested I look forward to hearing from you.
BLACK STAR GREEN ROOM
In preparation for Doha, a small group of 20-25 WTO members attended
exclusive 'green room' meetings in Mexico and Singapore. Underhand tactics
were being used to force agreement on a draft declaration for Doha. The
draft declaration totally ignores the viewpoints of civil society and
developing countries.
This new video looks at the historical background to problems presently
facing Ghana. It examines the consequences of slavery and colonialisation,
how the country was re-shaped by economic policy on independence, and the
drastic impacts of Structural Adjustment Loans taken out in the 1980's.
The video brings the viewer right up to date by exploring the impacts of
the WTO on Ghanaian agriculture and discusses the possible implications of
a new round.
In terms of offering a global perspective the video is great as all the
interviews are with leading academics, Trade Union representatives, WTO
negotiators, etc, from countries of the 'south'. Price £7.50. You can
order this resource ( and others found on the 'Just Business' website) from
Sarah Gann by telephone on 01603 610993 or by email, [log in to unmask]
Please mention 'Just
Business' when ordering.
