I am based in Scotland so this reply relates to North of the
boarder...Glasgow's Lighthouse is worth investigating for design related
exhibitions but rather a long journey from London

Subject: Visiting London in June...
This past summer another faculty member and I brought a group of 24
students
to London for four weeks. We teach in the Visual Communications program
(advertising design, graphic design, applied photography, web design,
and
illustration) at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware USA.
We are coming again this summer for five weeks. We arrive on June 1 and
leave on July 6.
We visit advertising agencies, design studios, web design studios,
photographers, illustrators, design related museums, typographers, etc.
We
also visit with D&AD (design and advertising club) that is sponsoring an
exhibition of 40 British design schools, along with the Royal College of
Art
and the London College of Printing degree shows (so far at least).
I'm wondering if there is anyone involved in this group that would be
interested in doing some kind of lecture/slide show to our group. The
group
is 22 students and 3 faculty. I'll probably have room for two or three
such
lectures, if possible. We're interested in issues like the history of
advertising design/graphic design, typography, relationship between
British/U.S. design, etc. Important British designers like Alan Fletcher
and
Eric Gill are also good possibilities. Our emphasis is on advertising
and
graphic design, but there might be topics that could include product
design
as well.
I would have approximately 150 pounds to offer for a talk. It could be
either in the morning, afternoon or evening. I'm assuming 1 - 2 hours
with
some time for questions and answers.
If you feel you have something that could benefit our British experience
or
could direct me to other people that might, please send me an email at

I would also be interested in places we might visit related to the topic
of
design graphics. We are planning on the British Library, V&A, The Design
Museum, The Type Museum, and St. Bride's. Are there others that we
should
consider?
Thank you for any contribution you might offer.
