This looks like the numbering system adopted by Frances Lynch in her
descriptions of the decorated stones. In this system the "new" carvings
we spotted would be on stone 7, the northern stone of the NE side
chamber. We have photos of this stone that show at least three large
chevrons, complete with peck marks. I'll post the URL when we get
them up on our website.
I made an error in my first post in that Stan Beckensall does in fact
mention six decorated stones in his book, but his "extra" is the largest
stone of the blocking to the SW side chamber, "4" in his diagram (no
idea what this would be in the Powell and Daniel numbering system).
We could not find the carving on this stone during our visit, so I suppose
there could actually be a total of seven stones bearing rock art in the
University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
