TWO POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN PALAEOENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
Each for 1 year on Salary Point 5 or 6
(£18,655 - £19,681 pa.)
The Postdoctoral Fellowships are part of palaeoenvironmental investigations
to be undertaken by Dr C. Caseldine, Prof. A. G. Brown and Dr P. Langdon
funded by the Irish Discovery Programme. The project is a multi-proxy
palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of lake settlements in Midland Ireland.
The project involves the combination of different palaeoenvironmental
techniques in order to understand the changing nature of the lake, mire and
alluvial environments in the survey area and the relationship of
environmental change to archaeological data.
It is expected that one of the Fellowships will be taken up by a
palynologist and the other by a specialist in one or more other
palaeoenvironmental techniques. Techniques of particular relevance include;
diatom analysis, chironomid analysis, testate amoebae and lake sediment
geochemistry. Applicants should have a PhD in the relevant specialism and
experience of fieldwork and publication.
An initial period of fieldwork is to be undertaken in July 2002 with all
the laboratory analyses being undertaken at Exeter. It is hoped that the
two successful candidates can be in post by the beginning of July and they
will be joining a large and active research group (4 staff, 6 postdoctoral
researchers and 7 postgraduates). The dedicated laboratory facilities
available to the group are currently being expanded and a wide range of
analytical equipment is available.
For informal discussions contact either: Dr C Caseldine
([log in to unmask] or 01392 263347) or Prof. A. G. Brown
([log in to unmask] or 01392 263331). Application forms are available
from the School Office ([log in to unmask] or 01392 263341) and the
closing date for applications is Friday May 10th 2002. A separate CV should
be included with the application form and both should be sent to Dr C.
Caseldine or Prof. A. G. Brown.
