medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Margaret,
To my knowledge, the manuscripts in which vernacular lives of saints
appear in France and England are usually collections, with lives of
different saints interspersed with other works, usually but not always
devotional. There are some manuscripts with a Franciscan flavour, that
have a number of texts related to Francis and/or Clare. One manuscript
that belonged to the Poor Clares in Amiens (now Paris, Bibl. Nat. fr.
2093 and 2095) contains a life of St Francis in verse, a life of St
Clare in prose, and two short prayer-like texts (in verse, if I remember
rightly) to Francis and Clare, along with a number of texts on the
spiritual life.
