medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi,
I was hoping someone out there could help me locate this book because I
can't find it in the British Library or on the URBS system in Rome
(including the Vatican Library, etc.) but it MUST be somewhere!!
It is called "Depositi e medaglie d'alcuni sommi Pontefici" Roma, 1780
In it are beautiful drawings of papal tombs. I have seen the drawing of the
tomb of Alexander VI in the old Vatican before it was destroyed. This is in
my Tombs and Potraits of the Popes by H.K. Mann. However, I can't find any
more bibiliographical information on it. The drawings are true
illustrations of the tombs, as opposed to the quick sketches that Grimaldi
did (I was actually SHAKING when I was going down the book stacks at the
Harvard University Library because I knew it was there).
Any help or leads anyone could give me would be wonderful, and thank you in
advance.
Oh, also, Grimaldi has several (9 or 10) smallish paragraphs describing the
opening of several papal tombs in 1606, which I'd like to include in my
book, but my Latin is not very good at all. Would anyone be interested in
taking a shot at this? I wouldn't be able to pay you until I get some income
from the book, but I will give you full credit and some kind of payment as
soon as I could.
Thanks again,
Wendy Reardon
